The Realtor and Oil/Gas Attack

On December 1, the “Healthy Economies Lead to Progress” PAC—funded by the real estate development industry and oil and gas—sent out a mailer attacking Democrat Tammy Fiebelkorn., saying she “will double down on the high tax policies that chased jobs away” and that she supports “continuation of catch and release for violent criminals.

The Facts

This corporate PAC provided no substantiation for their allegations because there are none. Tammy stated to the Albuquerque Journal that she would consider raising taxes “...to pay for community priorities like mental health services, community policing, low-income services, and environmental protection, it may become necessary to raise taxes. However, I would always work to minimize wasteful spending and maximize state and federal resources before supporting any sort of tax increase.

Further, Tammy has been public about her support to incentivize business and economic development in Albuquerque. As an economist, she has a keen understanding of how to create jobs.

On crime, Tammy stated to the Journal: “To reduce crime, we need to address the root causes. Council should support paths out of poverty via job training, job creation and career path development for young people while attracting new businesses including small and micro-businesses. We also need to fully fund drug addiction and mental health services.

Attorney General Hector Balderas stated, “We need City Councilors with hands-on experience working with law enforcement. Tammy Fiebelkorn fits the bill and I’m excited to work with her to make our streets and neighborhoods safer.

And District Attorney Raúl Torrez stated, "Tammy Fiebelkorn has spent years training law enforcement officials to identify the warning signs of domestic violence. She will be a smart advocate for public safety and I trust her to work with me to reduce crime thoughtfully, with proven strategies that address the revolving door of crime for violent offenders and provide those who need it with behavioral health and treatment support."

On October 15, Republican city council candidate Lori Robertson sent out an attack ad, attacking Democrat Tammy Fiebelkorn for supporting “equity and social justice” in the District 7 Council race.

The Facts

Tammy has never called to cut police funding and in fact, has spent years training and working side-by-side with law enforcement officers at APD and BCSO to identify the warning signs of domestic violence in the home. And she has called for fully funding the Community Safety Department to free up police officers to do their jobs.

Tammy does support more equity and social justice in our society so that every family has an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Tammy also supports Black Lives Matter’s call for racial equity and an end to police brutality.
